We’re down by two going into the third and we come back to win it in OT?!
By Bethany | March 1, 2008
Yea, you read that correctly, it really did happen. My boys continue to surprise me. People stepped up and got it going. With goals from Andrew Murray (the little AHLer that steals my heart from time to time) and Rick Nash, then the game winner came from Jason Chimera.
“Everyone was really confident in the room,” Chimera said. “We kept telling ourselves, ‘Just keep doing what we’re doing.’ We just had to outwork Luongo.”
The Jackets went into this game without their ex Captain Adam Foote, and the seasoned Sergei Fedorov. Their leadership group was cut in half with Jody Shelley leaving a little earlier in the season. They were facing the ever amazing Roberto Luongo, and a team that was only a few points ahead of them in the standings. All signs pointed to the Jackets losing. Which it looked like it was going to happen with the Jackets trailing by two going into the third. But, something clicked, and we started scoring, and tied it up, then WON the game in OT.
Aaron Rome played 11:08 seconds he even got 30 seconds on the powerplay. The guy really does have a good shot to get it in…that is if I remember correctly. It was strange for me to see him wearing that 44 I think he was #2 when he played for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. Oh well, he looked good out there even if he was a minus-2. Derek MacKenzie played a little more time, 12:09 and saw 21 seconds on the penalty kill and was a plus-1.
Roberto Luongo was tested with 33 shots and he stopped 30 of them for the loss. Pascal Leclaire only saw 23 shots stopped 21 for the OT win!! It was a battle of the goaltenders, which really makes me nervous, especially when it’s my team.
PLAYOFF WATCH: The Blue Jackets are within THREE points of a playoff spot. Yup, I don’t want to say too much about it but that’s where it stands right now.
“People want to keep counting us out,” goaltender Pascal Leclaire said. “That’s OK as long as the guys in the room keep believing.”
Ok, first of all what’s the deal with Fritsche fighting?! I don’t understand…you are supposed to be a nice checking forward from Ohio…but…thanks for showing you care!!
Then OKT got into a fight, that video isn’t available yet but when it is I will be sure to put that up.I also want to put up the piece that the Dispatch ran today in the Blue Jackets Notebook on leadership. It really put things into perspective for me.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Blue Jackets winger Fredrik Modin has a message for his teammates in the wake of Adam Foote’s departure.
Modin is not going to shout it across the room, however. He’s not going to get in a player’s face, either.
“There is enough leadership in here,” said Modin, 33, the Jackets’ oldest player under contract for next season. “But it has to come out naturally. It can’t be forced, or the guys aren’t going to respond to it.
“There is no recipe for leadership; it’s just something that happens naturally.”
In trading Foote, the team captain for more than two seasons, the Jackets lost a passionate leader whose voice was the loudest and most often heard in the dressing room.
Modin said the Jackets miss Foote as a teammate and a captain but other voices will emerge. He doesn’t think there is a leadership vacuum .
“When something like this happens, there is always this talk of guys needing to step up,” Modin said. “You are who you are, but I don’t think this team is lacking leadership.”
The Jackets are not expected to name a new captain until next season.
Center Michael Peca said that many Jackets players are familiar with leadership roles.
“Most of these guys are former captains or alternates in juniors and the minor leagues,” he said. “It just takes time.”
Keep the faith Jackets fans…this is going to be an interesting finish to the season. I still don’t expect them to make the playoffs, but it’s going to be great to see who steps it up.
