    Patience is a Virtue

    By Bethany | July 4, 2008

And, I luckily have it.  I have been waiting for news all week *well since Tuesday* that my beloved, Michael Peca, was signing with another team.  Then came the report yesterday that he was negotiating a multi-year contract with Scott Howson.  Here is what Peca had to say about the contract:

“I’d like at least a two-year deal,” Peca said. “I’d like to grow and be a part of something, not just a short-term piece.”

Michael Peca feels the Jackets have a shot.  If he didn’t feel that way, he would have pulled a Marian Hossa and gone to the Detroit Red Wings.  But, he’s not that type of person, he has the desire to be here, in our system, with our players that everyone thinks are a bunch of losers, and he wants to help them win.  It’s the same thing he did last year, only this year, we made changes, and we are spending money, for the first time in franchise history.  Hell, it is entirely possible that our payroll will be at 50,000,00 or more this season.  We will win.  Maybe not everything, but we will win, and we will be good.

Here’s a quick rundown on Michael Peca:  Last season when he was in the Blue Jacket sweater, we won.  When he wasn’t, it was anybody’s guess.  He brought something in that lockeroom and I don’t think that people really understand what leadership, and experience really is, and what it can do.  Take for example the Stanley Cup Finals.  The old run down Red Wings vs the young inexperienced Penguins.  The Pens proved they had what it took to get into the playoffs, and stay in the playoffs, but, they didn’t have the experience (aside from Roberts) to get it done.  The Red Wings did.

Whatever the case, I am glad that Peca will be back next season, and I am waiting on that contract to get signed.  See you in the fall Pecs!!  Also, the dates for Development Camp are in it is July 7 - July 11.  I will be there Monday, July 7.

Peca is a decent 3rd line guy. But we should go after Vermette. Reports from earlier today have CBJ interested in both Mezaros and Vermette. Or should is say OR.

Both of them are d-men, so it doesn’t have a lot to do with Peca signing. Also, I haven’t heard those reports…did you get them off hockeybuzz? I don’t pay one bit of attention to that site.
Meszaros is an RFA, so it would have to be via trade or offer sheet. And Vermette is under contract as well, so again, trade would be the only option.
