    Oh Captain, My Captain

    By Bethany | December 29, 2007

Adam Foote, is a leader, on and off the ice. He proved it on Thursday in Nashville and yes, as much as I don’t want to think about that game, I’m going to anyway. Jordin Tootoo leveled Novotny early in the first period. Foote stood up for his teammate and went after the P.O.S. Foote earned a 2 minute instigator, a 5 minute fighting major, and a 10 minute game misconduct. It was beautiful, I love seeing Foote beat up Tootoo it’s something that I look forward to every time we play Nashville.

The Dispatch had a great article on Foote and I think it’s something that every Jackets fan needs to read. Foote is set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent on July 1, 2008, however, Howson has said that in the coming weeks he would like to open talks with Foote. I think it’s the right thing to do, Foote looks rejuvenated, he’s showing the Captain he can be. The past two seasons were difficult with a joke as a General Manager, but now we have a legitimate General Manager in Scott Howson, a man that I have all the faith in the world in, and one of the best coaches in the NHL (if not the best) in Ken Hitchcock. Foote has proven he can still play at an elite level. Foote and Hejda are an amazing defensive pairing, I mean sure it’s not a Pronger/Niedermayer pairing but it’s good, real good.

My favorite part of the article is this quote from Hitch:

“That’s part of being a captain,” Hitchcock said. “Adam knows the right time. You don’t have to tell him the right time to go. And he knocked the snot out of (Tootoo).”

People wonder why I love this team, well, the coaching staff hates Tootoo just as much as I do, and that is a good thing haha. And, for those of you who have not seen the video, check it out below:
