    No Peca = Loss

    By Bethany | March 8, 2008

Yes, I said it. Michael Peca I guess is that type of player that we need in the lineup. He may not be contributing, but, his voice on that bench and on the ice, is needed for this hockey club. The Blue Jackets didn’t have any jump last night. Jared Boll seemed like he was the only one that cared about the game, getting into a fight with Stortini, and smack talking in the penalty box. Pazzy did let in two soft goals, even my own mother said he shouldn’t have let them in. But, I don’t want to blame Pazzy, I can’t do that, we should have scored, but nobody cared enough until the final second of the hockey game, that’s not how you win a hockey game.

Going into OT I knew we were doomed. We just didn’t have that jump. Here’s what Ron Hainsey had to say about the game.

“We had a little stretch after the All-Star break where we weren’t great defensively and we had some problems. But we corrected it. Defensively as a group, we’ve been pretty good all year so it’s not really an issue. It’s more of the same story – lots of chances, solid five-on-five play and just not able to capitalize.”

We are playing some really good solid defensive hockey. We have to score. You can’t win hockey games if you can’t score. I felt absolutely horrible when I read this quote from Pascal Leclaire:

“Our guys fought so hard and I (screwed) it up. I’ll take the blame again tonight.”

He may have let in a soft goal or two but by no means should he take the blame. We were up against Garon, a goaltender who was not wanted by the LA Kings, I mean let’s be serious, there is NO excuse as to why we didn’t have 3 goals on this guy. We have men who can score, Nash and Zherdev, and Chimmy, gets chance after chance, argh. It was a frustrating game for everyone I think. Hitch had this to say:

“We’re the 30th scoring team in the National Hockey League, so we have to manufacture goals. We’re in the hunt because we check, we work, but we’ve had timely goals all year. Now, we’re not getting that – we have people in droughts offensively and we’re not getting timely goals even though we’re creating chances.”

We are in a drought but how do we rectify it? I thought it was interesting how at the end of Hitch’s press conference he said we’re on the ice at twelve or noon whatever he said.  Anyway, I don’t know what else to say.  Crappy game.  Hopefully it’s better next game.  There are videos after the jump.

I love Mike Peca. A lot of people give me crap about that fact because of some of the things he’s done in the past, but bro plays his ass off every night, and plays with a lot of heart and will. We miss having a player like that now that Walz has retired.

I am with you. I think the people that give you crap are the people whose team he has left. He’s a traveling guy though, that’s how he rolls.

This is very true. And traveling, that’s how he rolls, is an almost excellent pun. At least my bad, nerdy self enjoyed it.

I was seriously hoping he’d come and play for us, because as much as I loved Walz, Peca is like a more talented, slightly poorer skater, better spoken version of Mr. Wes Walz. (and perhaps less profane, but he is a hockey player, so maybe not.) For the record, I don’t know many players who are better skaters than Walz. Scott Niedermayer is on the very short list of players that are.

Peca occasionally shows greatness in his skating, but not consistantly, and yes there is room for improvement. You never know, maybe Pecs will come play for you this off season, but I don’t know, maybe we will sign him. HAHA…you never know with Peca, but he is my favorite!

At least he doesn’t do the skate really fast, glide, trip and fall on his face thing that Pascal Dupuis does. It’s hilarious, except when he plays for you and is on a breakaway.

He seems pretty happy in Columbus at the moment. I bet he’ll stay at least one more season with you guys. In the meantime, we need someone not named Mikko Koivu who can win faceoffs.

LOL I haven’t noticedd that about Dupuis, I will have to watch for that.

He does seem happy, I hope he does stay, I mean he played in Toronto last season, we are TONS better than the Leafs.
