Luc Bourdon dead at 21
By Bethany | May 29, 2008

Luc Bourdon died today in a motorcycle accident near Shipagan, N.B. That is really all the information that is available at this time. I will be posting more articles/information as it comes in.
This is such horrible news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the Vancouver Canucks organization.
UPDATE: Eve Bourdon, Luc’s sister confirmed his death, but declined further comment. His agent, Kent Hughes, was unaware he rode motorcycles. Also, according to the report Luc just purchased his motorcycle two days ago.
UPDATE: There are some comments floating around forums that he was hit by a semi.
UPDATE: Mirtle had this on his blog, which I thought was extremely interesting.
He was raised by a single mother, and had juvenile arthritis and was in a wheelchair at age 9. He took medication for six years for the condition, which improved and went away as he got older.
UPDATE: The Canucks have issued a statement:
Vancouver, B.C. – It is with deep regret that the Vancouver Canucks today announced defenceman Luc Bourdon passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday morning. Bourdon was 21 years old.
“We are deeply saddened by today’s news and on behalf of the entire Vancouver Canucks organization, I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to Luc’s family,” said Canucks General Manager, Mike Gillis. “Luc was an extremely talented player with a bright future. He brought great passion to the game and was a valued team member on and off the ice. He will be greatly missed.”
UPDATE: TSN has another quote from his agent:
Bourdon’s motorcycling was unknown to Hughes, who never knew about his client’s new hobby. “I had no idea,” Hughes told CKNW in Vancouver. “Another client of ours Kris Letang said Luc let him know he was riding his dad’s motorcycle with some friends a week or two ago. I have since been told - though I don’t know - that he actually bought a motorcycle two days ago.”
UPDATE: The NHLPA has released a statement also.
“All members of the NHLPA and our staff are deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected passing of Luc Bourdon. Through hard work and perseverance, Luc was able to realize his dream of becoming an NHL player. Luc had a promising life and career ahead of him and he will certainly be missed. The NHLPA’s thoughts and prayers go out to the Bourdon family, his teammates and his many friends.” —- NHLPA Executive Director, Paul Kelly
UPDATE: The Manitoba Moose has also chimed in.
Craig Heisinger, Vice-President & General Manager of the Manitoba Moose, added his voice to those expressing sympathy.
“Luc was a truly passionate person who was also hard-working, and caring of his teammates.”
“He was a very talented player who made a great impact on the organization in a short period of time. It is a big loss for the Manitoba Moose family.”
UPDATE: Alanah has a great post that is a must read.

fuck, they just put pictures of the accident scene on the local news. I hate when they do that - it is just sensational and insensitive.
