TONIGHTS GAME
The boys are currently in Calgary, Alberta getting ready to fight the good fight against the Calgary Flames on Hockey Night in Canada. Pascal Leclaire, aka Our Meal Ticket, injured his hamstring in the Oilers game, is not going to be in net tonight for the Flames game. Fredrik Norrena will be in, and the boys have not been playing well in front of him. Let’s hope that tonight will be different. Leclaire could possibly start Monday vs Dallas at home in Nationwide Arena.
INJURIES
A bit of a look at the injuries that we have; like I said before Pascal Leclaire injured his hamstring but is currently day to day. Modin who suffered from back spasms, has resumed skating I wouldn’t expect him back until later this month. Duvie Westcott did get another concussion but is now, according to Puck-Rakers has resumed skating, but, don’t expect him back for a bit, he has a concussion history and we don’t need him to lose his career over this, so no rushing Duvie back. Jiri Novotny also suffered a concussion in the game in Minnesota, he is not skating, and really there is no time frame.
CALL UPS
The Blue Jackets called up Marc Methot and Tomas Popperle from Syracuse. Personally, I’m tired of Methot, and thought Rome should have received the call ups of course that’s because he’s one of my Cincy Ducks, but still, Methot just doesn’t do it for me.
ELMIRA JACKALS
The Elmira Jackals were involved in a car wreck, but none of the players sustained any life threatening injuries, count your blessings. No players were hospitalized, but the driver of the bus was trapped in the wreckage and was in serious condition.
NHL NEWS
The NHL will have a new schedule next year, 6 games against divisional opponents, 4 against their conference, and then playing the other conference once, and 3 wild card games. Personally I am a fan of this, the Western Conference teams have had it rough, and the Eastern Conference teams rarely leave their time zones. You can read more about it here.
BLUE JACKET FANS NEED TO SHUT UP
I read Puck-Rakers every single day. I don’t miss it, what’s interesting to me is the comments people leave. Linda K said we should blame ownership ya know because he says who we draft and everything. She’s a bright one. If you want to read some of the ridiculousness, check it out here. Portzline calls them out in his latest blog:
Having said that, people need to chill. I’ve gotten several emails from people in the last 24 hours. Here are some of the topic: “this Blue Jackets club is the same as previous years,” “they’re out already out of the playoffs,” “Hitchcock is an idiot,” “too bad MacLean’s not here anymore,” and so on. The Blue Jackets are 11-10-4. Not great, but not awful, either. Here is their record after 25 games the last six seasons: 7-16-2, 7-18-0, 8-13-3-1, 9-12-2-2, 7-12-5-1, 7-16-1-1. Maybe they won’t make the playoffs. We’ve said all along that they’re a .500 club, maybe a tad better. But if you think nothing’s changed, you’re not paying attention.
Yea, so be quiet…you don’t go from a bottom feeder to a Cup contender over night. It’s just not going to happen, give Hitch and Howson a little time and then we’ll make a run of it. If you can’t stand it, go and cheer for the Red Wings or something.

Not sure what exactly would cause you to become tired of Methot, considering he hasn’t played yet this season? He was +5 in 20 games last season, not shabby. Just curious.

Fist.. Let’s go Jackets
Second, what happened one day they’re second in th West, next last in the Central (albeit not by much). I’d like to see columbus get in the playoffs, I think the cities ready to get a winning hockey team

Drew, I just don’t like him. I don’t like the way he plays…he seems to piss me off everytime he’s on the ice. I don’t know why exactly I think it’s more of my love for Rome than my hate for Methot…which probably makes no sense to you but whatever.
Jibbles, this is why I love you…because you cheer for my boys. I would like to see the Jackets in the playoffs too…even if it is just for one series.

I especially loved the ‘you don’t go from bottom feeder to contender overnight’ line. It’s funny but no one seems to realize that. Take the Coyotes, for instance (since I know their situation best)… we got off to a rocky start at home but were fantastic on the road, everyone was ok with it. Then we nabbed Bryz off the waiver wire and won those, what? 4 in a row? and everyone expected us to win every game from then on in. Nay, fans, nay. When we went back to winning some, losing some, our fans got mad.
What did they expect?

I don’t get how people don’t understand that…just because Kevin Lowe went from Stanley Cup contender to bottom feeder doesn’t mean it flip flops. Man…I can’t wait til the Yotes and Jackets are in the playoffs…siiiiiiiiiiigh
