Getting to know the Jackets 2008 Draft Picks
By Bethany | June 22, 2008
- Nikita Filatov ~ The more I watch the youtube clips of this kid, the more I anxious I get to see him in a Blue Jackets uniform. He has a desire to come to Columbus to train with the other Jackets prospects and players. Filatov and his family are going to have a conference call with Howson tomorrow (Monday) to talk about his visa issues, and what his plan is. Nikita sat with the Blue Jackets on Saturday as they made their second-seventh round picks. Only one other player did that, and that was Stamkos.
- Cody Goloubef ~ Was picked 37th overall, he is a defenseman, and he made the Wisconsin team, as a 17 year old freshman. He has the potential to be an offensive defenseman, something the Jackets desperately need…he’s also a right shot.
- Steven Delisle ~ Picked 107th overall. A big body defenseman (6′6” 209 lbs) and another offensive defenseman. Steven is playing in the QMJHL.
- Drew Olson ~ Picked 118th overall, a defenseman, who will be attending University of Minnesota-Duluth.
- Matthew Calvert ~ Picked 127th overall, a left wing with a very small body (5′9” 164 lbs). Matthew is currently playing in the WHL.
- Tomas Kubalik ~ Picked 135th overall, a centre/right wing, he was ranked 21st European Skater.
- Brent Regner ~ Picked 137th overall, defenseman, he’s currently playing with the Vancouver Giants (they have a great defensive team).
- Cameron Atkinson ~ Picked 157th overall, a right wing that will be playing at Boston College.
- Sean Collins ~ Picked 187th overall, a center, he isn’t playing in the CHL, but averaged two points per game.
The Dispatch had a quick and dirty look at the draft picks today.

As a Russophile, I am looking forward to following Filatov’s career in the NHL. I must admit that I’ve never really followed your team much, but Nikita seems happy to go there. He was positively beaming during his post-pick interview. Here’s a photo showing your boy’s not quite as puny as people think he is, and this was last year when he weight about 7 lbs less than he does now:

I am thrilled that he is on my team…and can’t wait to see him on the ice in a Jackets uniform!! He isn’t as small as he looks, thanks for the picture!!

I played with Brent Regner for 10 years in Minor Hockey. Glad he is finally getting the respect he deserves. He was the best player I ever played hockey with and I played AAA the whole way up. Great leader to always kept us going in the tight games really took control of his team and made us all want to be a better player.
