    Game(s) 5!!

    By Bethany | May 16, 2008

x-posted to The Sports Diva Magazine

Just when I thought the Conference Finals were boring the Dallas Stars and the Philadelphia Flyers added a bit of drama to the mix.  Both teams won game 4’s in their barn to force a game 5.  Here are my thoughts on each of the series.

Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings ~ The Red Wings are probably the best team left in the playoffs.  Nothing phases them, they were however forced to lose in game 4.  Most of this is probably the refs fault, the first goal that was in the back of the net for the Red Wings was called off, by a questionable call.  Now, I am not saying that had that goal been allowed the Wings would have won.  I am saying it would have been a different game.  Who’s hot right now for these teams?  Turco played extremely well in game 4, however he is horrible in Detroit, expect Dallas to be finished Saturday afternoon.  Franzen was hot for the Red Wings but is unfortunately out of the line up.  Datsyuk is also hot for the Wings, he scored the questionable goal in game 4.

What can Dallas do to force a game 6?  Try keeping all the Red Wings in check, and try to have puck possession at all times…beat them at THEIR game.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers ~ The Pens have been solid, except in game 4.  Marc Andre Fleury was mediocre at best last night, and allowed three goals in the first period.  Jordan Staal came back for the Pens to score twice.  This was an outstanding game, the Flyers played great hockey.  I told my friend Kristin that this is when you find out what your team is made of.  They proved that they deserved to be in the Eastern Conference Finals.  Who’s hot for theses teams?  Staal for the Pens is always a factor, he is an amazing player and only in Pittsburgh would he be considered a third line center.  (Put him on Columbus and he’s a first line guy.)  As for the Flyers, it looks like Briere is back, and just in time.  He was moved to the wing last night.

What can Philly do to force a game 6?  Hit the Penguins hard, and hit them often.  They’re not a team that likes to be hit, and if Philly can score first, they have a serious shot at winning game 5 and forcing a game 6 in their barn.

Saturday is Detroit vs Dallas at 1:30 PM EST, Sunday is Pens vs Flyers at 3:00 PM EST both games on NBC.
