Ducks 2 Jackets 1
By Bethany | November 3, 2007
The Jackets went into the game on Thursday night tired, after playing the night before. The Ducks went into the game well rested and ready to re-start their season. The Ducks wanted revenge on the Blue Jackets for making them look like fools by shutting them out on October 5. Travis Moen wanted revenge on Jared Boll for the clean open ice hit that he delivered on Moen that night. Fredrik Norrena just wanted to play. The Ducks got three of their starters back. During the game Fredrik Modin left the game with back spasms. Don’t expect him to be back into the line up for a week or so.
The first period was fairly boring. There was a constant parade of Jackets into the penalty box. It was one of those games where being the number 1 penalty kill unit in the NHL really helps. The refs were absolutely horrible. Nobody knew who was getting the penalties. There was a time where Norrena and Giguere began to skate off the ice. Giguere realized he probably should go back.
There were three fights during the game. Ole-Kristian Tollefsen mixed it up with Brad May in the first period. Jared Boll and Travis Moen went at it. Our rookie had this to say about it:
“We started talking during the faceoff,” Boll said. “It was a pretty short conversation.”
Everybody in the Honda Center knew what was coming.
“I don’t like the premeditated stuff,” Boll said. “So I wasn’t going looking for him. But if he wanted to go, I felt like I owed it to him after the hit.”
Boll has a firm grasp on the unwritten but often referenced “code” of hockey.
“That’s the great thing about hockey,” Boll said. “I hit him, we fought and now it’s over. We move on.”
Jason Chimera also stood up for himself against Shane Hnidy. The Blue Jackets did not dress Jody Shelley but the Ducks decided to dress their enforcer George Parros…who was limited to 3 shifts and 2:47 time on ice. I’d say he’s a little frustrated and I’m sure he wanted a piece of Boll.
The Jackets were tired you could tell. We didn’t play to the best of our ability. What impresses me the most is that the Ducks played maybe one of their best games of the season we played probably one of our worst, and they had to take us out to a shootout just to beat us. Our shootout needs work. Norrena let in ONE in the shootout and yes it was questionable but we should be able to at least get one in.
The standings look pretty good today. I’m a fan of being 4th in the Western Conference. Let’s hope we keep it up! All in all I’m content with getting a point and I agree with Hitch that it was an excellent point. Anyway, I’m off to work on my NaNoWriMo…wish me luck!!

Columbus in 4th… that can’t be right. Wake up Bethany, you’re dreaming.
The only thing reasonable is the Avs in second
