Peca & Umberger OH MY!
By Bethany | July 8, 2008
Well, I was a little slow getting this post up, but when I read this little gem, I couldn’t help but to post something up. Today has been quite a busy day for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Development Camp started today, and as much as I wanted to go, I wasn’t able to due to school starting (two classes fit into a 5 week session). Sarah, over at Neutral Zone Trap, was able to attend, and has a full breakdown of the boys and how they’re progressing.
Also, the Blue Jackets signed R.J. Umberger to a four-year contract worth $15 million ($3, $3.5, $4, & $4.5). You remember, the Blue Jackets acquired Umberger at the draft from the Philadelphia Flyers. Umberger was a Restricted Free Agent (RFA). Umberger will more than likely be centering the top line with Rick Nash on the left, and Freddy Modin on his right…or Jakub Voracek. Here is what General Manager, Scott Howson had to say about the signing:
“Acquiring R.J. last month was an important first step in our efforts to improve the hockey club this summer and we are pleased that he will be a part of our organization for the next four years,” said Howson. “He is a competitive, hard-working player who will add versatility to our top six forwards.”
Then there was the news that Peca had Agreed to Terms with the Blue Jackets. This news came as a relief to me, I have always liked Peca, and felt like he needed to be part of our team for the future. Anyway, we’re still waiting on the actual announcement from the team and according to the boys at the Dispatch, it could be announced tomorrow.
In my investigating over at Puck-Rakers I found a very cool comment from a reader on there and I thought I would share it with everyone on the blog. (FYI I do not typically read the comments onPuck-Rakers because most people who comment are morons.) The commenter had his name as “thisspaceintentionallyleftblank” classic:
Now, for those of you who just rant and react without bothering to use logic or cold hard facts before you post, here you go:

I love that logic; it’s beautiful.
What’s this I hear now…”Columbus Blue Jackets sign defenseman Andrey Plekhanov to a two-year contract, defenseman Clay Wilson and left wing John Vigilante to one-year contracts.”
I remember watching Vigilante play in the Preds’ farm system. He played against the Wolves during the playoffs. The other two…no idea.

The people that comment on puckrakers are almost as bad as the people that post on the HF Boards.
If you aren’t there to bitch about the CBJ then don’t bother-
