CAPTAIN: Pittsburgh Penguins - Sidney Crosby
By Bethany | March 11, 2008
Okay, here is the deal, I am going to start posting about the Captains of different teams around the NHL. I have enlisted the help of my amazing HLOG sisters. However, if you would like to add anything to these posts feel free to send me an e-mail at BethanysHockeyRants@gmail.com. The first Captain, is Sidney Crosby and I talked to Ellie at No Pun Intended here is what she had to say:
Sidney Crosby wears the Penguins C. I think he’s the youngest to wear it - might want to check though b/c Vinny LeCavilier was pretty young when he got captain. Sid is a good leader because of the following:
- He works hard. He’s always skating around, practicing stuff. There’s lots of stories about how it was a pain in the butt to get him to leave the ice so they could get the Zamboni on it when he was growing up. As good as he is, he knows he can be better. You have to admire that in a guy.
- He sticks up for people. He got called out a lot his first year in the league for “whining about calls”, but Sid is not afraid to communicate if he thinks something was bullshit. A leader should be willing to stick up for his followers.
- He’s very mature for his age. He does very well with the press, and seems to be able to handle himself off the ice.
- Come on it’s Sidney Crosby. This kid was born to be a captain of a hockey team : )
So there you have it. All about Sidney Crosby, from a Pens fan.

He definitely was the youngest ever. I’m a closet Pens fan from the pre-CBJ days, and I recall the Penguins and the NHL making a big deal about Sid being the youngest ever.
Additionally, he was the least masculine voice ever. If you can find a clip of him from Sundays game, he was miked up and sounded ridiculous. His voice is so high pitched, and it only gets worse when he’s excited. When he was shrieking/laughing whatever on the Backstrom own-goal, he sounded like 14-year-old girl. Not becoming of the NHL’s savior.

I’m not a Crosby fan at all and am pretty sure that I see him crying more than I see my god daughter cry. Oh well, can’t deny his talent.

He’s a good diver…um, wait, that’s probably not a qualification to be captain unless you play for the Russian National Team.

Hard to take anything this blog says as fact when the author doesn’t even know that the current best player in the NHL is also the youngest permanent captain ever.
You seriously have the gall to put Crosby down when you can’t even figure out he was the youngest captain ever?
Look what his peers say about him. He is the best player, voted by his peers. Something tells me they know a little more about hockey than you.
Further, when is the last time you saw him complain about anything? I can promise this, he complains infinitely less than the complaining that goes on in this blog.
“I’m not writing another post until we win a game!” “Being a mom is hard!”
Give me a break. If you’re going to post about Sid just to cheap shot him later then just don’t write about him at all. This is the last time I ever read this blog. What a classless thing to do. Maybe tomorrow we’ll make a post about you just so we can bad mouth you in the comments. That’d be fun.

Mike, if you actually took the time to read the blog you will see that it was written by Ellie, so hard to take anything you say as fact, if you can’t even read correctly.
I didn’t put down Crosby, besides saying that he cried. No, I am not a Crosby fan, sorry that it offends you, that I don’t like him.
Feel free to post about me, I for one am a fan of people being honest, but, that’s just me. Of course you won’t read this because I offended you soooo greatly that you’ll never read the blog again.

Ummm… wow.
Anyway, I actually like Sid, I was just saying that they (the NHL and NBC) might want to avoid miking him up until he matures a little bit and doesn’t sound like he’s fourteen.

Good god, it’s your blog- say whatever the hell you want.
Of course that is coming from a sleepless solo parent- complaining, sorry.
